Kansas Citys A-List is city guide conducted by KMBC and CityVoter that profiles local businesses. Each guide is kicked off with a promotional contest and allows consumers to vote for their favorites. Voting is conducted online at http://kmbc.cityvoter.com. Voting for the 2008 Best of Kansas Citys A-List begins on August 11th, 2008, and will conclude on October 3rd, 2008 at midnight local time. As the only image-based directory of local businesses, the KMBC A-List brings together information and visual content to form a unique place for local businesses to promote their business. The Best of Kansas City's A-List and contest results reflect voter preferences, and not KMBC Kansas City's endorsement.

may request to join a contest category in which their business legitimately provides services or specialization and has a physical storefront. It's free and easy to add your business to the A-List, simply visit our List Your Business page!

What if my favorite business is not on Kansas Citys A-List?
You can either nominate the business yourself, by visiting our nomination page, or you can encourage the owners to list themselves!
Can a business compete in multiple categories?
No. While many businesses do excel across a broad spectrum of categories, each business is limited to one contest category during the voting period. Each business controls which contest category they compete in. After the contest has ended, businesses may request to be listed in additional categories on the guide.
How are winners selected?
Contest winners are determined by popular vote. Consumers can only vote once, making Kansas Citys A-List the most accurate and fair online voting available. The company with the most votes during the defined voting period wins. Refer to the Contest Rules for more information. Although paid promotion packages help increase business visibility on the site, advertising in no way impacts the vote count.
How do people vote?
Votes are only accepted on the official Contest Site. CityVoter technology ensures voting is fair and accurate. Business owners are strongly encouraged to invite their customers to vote for them, but businesses who attempt to fraudulently manipulate the vote count will be removed from the competition.
Does a star rating or review count as a vote?
No. People may review businesses without voting and vote for a business without writing a review or submitting a rating. Votes are cast when the yellow vote button is clicked. People can see what votes they have cast at anytime by logging into their account and clicking on “Votes” under the “My Stuff” tab.
When will winners be announced?
Winners will be announced after the contest has ended. After that event, KMBC will continue to showcase the winners on Kansas Citys A-List under a winners section. All nominees will remain on Kansas Citys A-List guide all year.
How often is Kansas Citys A-List updated?
Constantly. Businesses and consumer nominations are processed during the contest and the guide will continue to grow after the contest concludes.
Can I set up a computer at my business and have customers vote when they come into the store?
While it is possible for you to do this, you run the risk of having your customers' legitimate votes caught in our fraud detection filters. Although you are encouraged to get your customers to vote for you, we do not support this type of voting behavior.
I know that many people have voted for me recently; why haven't I moved up in the standings?
The standings represent percentages of the total number of votes received for a specific category. While you may be gathering additional votes, so too may other businesses in your category. If everyone is gaining similar numbers of votes, then the percentages may not appear to change much.
*Businesses which are part of a national chain or franchise will be provided with only one listing per guide on the A-List.
**Some businesses in the wedding contest category may fall outside of the defined area.
